Westland District Council has approved the award of a contract for major heating upgrades at the Hokitika Swimming Pool, marking an important step towards improving the comfort, efficiency and long-term sustainability of the facility.
The approved works include the replacement and upgrade of the pool water heating system and the air heating unit, which are critical components of the pool's operation.
The Hokitika Swimming Pool is a well-used community facility that supports recreation, learn-to-swim programmes, school activities and community wellbeing. The heating upgrades will improve operational performance while enhancing comfort for pool users.
Council is now progressing the final contractual arrangements with the successful contractor. Once these have been completed, further details, including the contractor's name and construction programme, will be announced.
Chief Executive Barbara Phillips said the project is expected to be completed within the next three to four months, subject to final programme scheduling and equipment delivery timeframes.
"Approving the contract is an important milestone. Replacing the pool heating system as the first phase of the wider upgrade removes the pool's reliance on diesel fuel and its exposure to fluctuating fuel prices, while helping achieve Council's goal of getting the facility back into operation for the community as quickly as possible."
"We are now progressing the necessary contractual arrangements and look forward to providing the community with further updates as the project moves into delivery."
The heating upgrades represent a significant investment in the long-term sustainability and operation of the Hokitika Swimming Pool, helping to ensure the facility continues to serve the community for years to come.
Further information will be provided once the contracts have been finalised and construction timelines have been confirmed.
