Westland District Council has confirmed that the iconic Hokitika Wildfoods Festival will take place on Saturday, 13 March 2027, ensuring the continued delivery of one of the district’s most well-known and valued events.
The festival remains a significant part of Hokitika’s identity and plays an important role in supporting the local economy, attracting visitors to the district, and showcasing the unique character of the West Coast.
Council is taking a considered and structured approach to planning for the 2027 event, with a strong focus on community engagement and collaboration. This reflects a commitment to ensuring the festival continues to evolve in a way that meets community expectations while remaining sustainable and successful into the future.
A dedicated working group has been established to support this process. The group will help guide engagement, bringing together local knowledge, industry experience, and community perspectives to inform planning and delivery.
Chief Executive, Barbara Phillips said confirming the date provides certainty for the community, event partners, and the wider tourism sector.
“The Wildfoods Festival is a cornerstone event for Hokitika and the West Coast. Confirming the date early allows us to work alongside our community and stakeholders to shape an event that reflects who we are and where we’re going.”
Council will engage with local businesses, iwi, event partners, and the community as planning progresses, ensuring opportunities for input are accessible and well communicated.
Further updates, including opportunities for involvement, will be shared in the coming months.
