As part of its ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality library services and making the best use of available resources, Westland District Library regularly reviews how its services are used and where library funding can deliver the greatest benefit for the community.
The library currently offers a range of digital services, including Libby, BorrowBox, Kanopy, and Hoopla, giving members access to eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, television, and other digital content from home.
While these services play an important role in expanding access to library resources, usage levels vary across the different platforms. Following a review of its digital offerings, the library has identified an opportunity to better align its investment with the services most frequently used by members.
As a result, the library will discontinue its Hoopla Digital subscription from 30 September. Hoopla provides access to eBooks, audiobooks, movies, television and music but overall uptake has remained relatively low compared with the library's other digital services.
Funding currently allocated to Hoopla will instead be reinvested into the library's other digital collections, including Libby, BorrowBox and Kanopy. This will help improve access to content used by a larger number of members, support a broader range of titles, reduce wait times for popular items, and minimise duplication across the library's digital platforms.
Library members who currently use Hoopla will continue to have access until 30 September and are encouraged to complete any borrowed eBooks, audiobooks, movies or other content before the service ends.
This change reflects the library's commitment to delivering efficient, sustainable services and ensuring limited library funding is invested where it can provide the greatest benefit to the Westland community.
