The new earthquake-strengthening legislation announced this week is expected to have an impact on the thinking and decision-making around both the WDC Council HQ in Weld Street and the Pakiwaitara Building.
Council will prepare updated information on the potential impacts for the new triennium Council to consider. As noted at the Council meeting on 25 September, the next step will be to bring the full information supporting the approach out to the Westland community for discussion. This will be dependent on the new Council’s agreement after reviewing the updated information and confirming next steps.
In the meantime, the site will not be sitting idle. A temporary pop-up café has been granted a six-month lease, making good use of the space and supporting a local business. During this period, no additional Council spending on building or renovation work will take place until the final approach is agreed.
We look forward to sharing the proposed approach with the Westland community, so that together we can decide how and what best represents us as the Westland District Council.
