Arahura Water Treatment Plant close to commissioning

Media Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Arahura Water Treatment Plant is on its way to becoming operational within the next two to three weeks, advises Scott Baxendale, Group Manager: District Assets. “The plant is in the process of being commissioned, and water will be sourced from a new bore. It is great news for the community because Council can revoke the boil water notice that is currently in place when the plant goes live.”

The new water treatment plant addresses issues such as the location of the bore, power supply and monitoring. Water from the new treatment plant will meet the revised Drinking Water Standards, providing a safe and compliant supply for the Arahura Township. A connection to the Marae site, provides compliant potable water to the Marae. Greater water capacity is provided with the installation of a third reservoir.

Simon Bastion, Chief Executive, says, “I am delighted that the local residents will receive the benefit from this new water treatment plant in their community. It will make a big difference to the users on this supply to have reliably compliant drinking water and no longer be on a boil water notice.

Notes:

  • The plant was a project through the Long Term Plan 2018 – 2028 and cost $800,000 to build.
  • Tender for the work was awarded to Process Flow by the Capital Projects and Tenders Committee on 15 September 2020.
  • Procurement of materials by Process Flow began in October 2020.
  • In April 2021 the building was prefabricated and fitted out with equipment by Process Flow Ltd in Nelson and transported to the Arahura site upon completion.
