Earthworks alongside Franz Josef WWTP

Media release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Earthworks to secure the Franz Josef Wastewater Treatment Plant from the changing course of the Franz Josef / Waiho River into the Tatare Stream are now complete. Contractors from Campbell Agriculture and Contracting and Westroads shored up the stopbank to the West of the wastewater treatment ponds.

“With the river changing course in early February, Council resolved to undertake emergency works under section 330 of the Resource Management Act,” advises Chief Executive Simon Bastion. “Council agreed that protecting the ponds against potential deluge from the Waiho River is a priority and instructed that temporary remediation works should be undertaken. This work was unbudgeted and we will be seeking external funding to alleviate the costs to ratepayers.”
