Work to construct the much-anticipated new public toilets at Cass Square will begin next week.
“We are pleased to be commencing work on the new Cass Square toilets next week,” says Facilities and Property Manager Jan Visser. “With the construction to begin soon the new toilets should be ready to open well in time for the summer season. The new location of the toilets is on Weld Street near the existing playground. This should address the location issue that has been expressed to us by families who use the playground.
Installation will be undertaken by local trades people, with Henry Adams Contracting doing the dig out for the foundations, Kris Rowe Builders will be constructing the foundation beams, and installing paving and ground contouring, Jeff Evans Plumbers are doing the plumbing work, and E&I services will do the electrical work. We anticipate that the toilets will take around two months to complete.”
Funding for the toilets is comprised of a Tourism Infrastructure Funding grant of $191,500 and Council capital funding of $425,000, which has been carried over from previous years. The toilet structure is a similar design to the toilets currently installed in Haast.
