Road Safety funding to sponsor West Coast Teenagers / Students

Westland, Grey and Buller Councils have received approval to use Road Safety funding to sponsor West Coast Teenagers/Students to attend the Street Smart Driver Training Programme provided by the Tony Quinn Foundation.

Who is Street Smart?

You may have never heard of Street Smart before so we wanted to take this opportunity to share a little bit about us. Street Smart driven by Tony Quinn Foundation Road Safety is a driver’s education programme designed to give young Kiwis real-world driving experience in a safe, controlled environment. Our aim is to ultimately save lives on our roads. What sets us apart is the practical, hands-on nature of our training days. Young drivers (and their parent / guardian) make their way through potentially life saving activities in their own vehicles, lead by our expert coaches. Our focus is on developing good decision-making strategies for safe driving, including self-assessment and learning, reading the road environment, resisting peer pressure, managing or eliminating distractions, and planning ahead.

Spread the word

If you have young drivers in your whanau or wider network, we would LOVE it if you could share Street Smart with them, and encourage them to register to attend a training day.

You can suggest they like and follow us on social media, check out our website, or subscribe to our newsletter so they can get regular emails with updates on the programme.

To test interest in this each West Coast Council is sponsoring 20 positions on a first in first served basis for any of the upcoming driver training courses at any of the venues in NZ. The usual Course fee is $149 and this will be paid for by the Councils. When registering the student will require a special registration code that we can make available once you are ready to register. The local High Schools will also be provided with the code.
