Council welcomes NZTA's decision to retain a 95% funding assistance rate for the Haast-Jackson Bay Road through the 2027-30 National Land Transport Programme.
The decision follows a national review of Special Purpose Road funding. Council strongly advocated for the importance of the Haast-Jackson Bay Road, highlighting its role in connecting communities, supporting tourism, enabling access to services, and providing a vital transport link for South Westland.
While funding support will reduce from 100% to 95%, retaining such a high level of national funding is a positive outcome and recognises the unique importance of the road.
The result helps ensure the majority of eligible maintenance, renewal and emergency work costs on the road continue to be funded nationally, reducing the burden that would otherwise fall on local communities.
