Westland District Library will be temporarily closed from its Sewell Street location from 10 August 2026 while building maintenance is carried out by the building owner.Â
Nothing to worry about! Library services aren’t going anywhere! You’ll find us at our pop-up library in the Pakiwaitara Building (41 Weld Street).Â
Council staff have worked hard to ensure that library services can continue with minimal disruption. The pop-up library will have a smaller collection of books, but we’ve ensured that the collection reflects a wide variety, and that there’s something for everyone.Â
What to expect:Â
- Borrowing and holds (Limited to the pop-up collection only)Â
- Returns can be dropped off into the returns box next to the counter (No shoot at the pop-up)Â
- Free Wi-Fi for browsing, streaming and eBooksÂ
- Printing servicesÂ
- Programmes will continue as normalÂ
- Justice of the Peace service (Thursdays 11am–1pm)Â
Our beloved toy library will be hosted by the Hokitika Community Trust and moving to the Old Bank of New Zealand building soon. The community will be kept updated once dates are finalised.Â
We expect to return to our Sewell Street building in November 2026, and we’ll keep you updated along the way.Â
Thanks for your support while we make these improvements. We look forward to seeing you at the pop-up!Â
