Westland District Library will temporarily relocate to the Pakiwaitara Building, 41 Weld Street, from Wednesday 5 August 2026, while essential maintenance work is carried out at the library's Sewell Street premises.
The library's last day of service at 20 Sewell Street will be Thursday 30 July, with opening hours of 9.30am to 5.00pm.
Library services will be temporarily unavailable from Friday 31 July to Tuesday 4 August to allow for the safe relocation of collections, technology and equipment while staff prepare both sites for the transition.
From Wednesday 5 August, library services will continue from the pop-up location, ensuring the community remains connected to the services they value while building works are completed.
Services available at the pop-up library:
• Borrowing and holds (Around 3000 books available)
• Returns can be dropped off into the returns box next to the counter (No chute at the pop-up)
• Free Wi-Fi for browsing, streaming and eBooks
• Printing services
• Programmes will continue as normal
• Justice of the Peace service (Thursdays 11am–1pm)
We expect to return to our Sewell Street building in November 2026, and we’ll keep you updated along the way.
Thanks for your support while we make these improvements. We look forward to seeing you at the pop-up!
