Long Term Plan 2027-2037

As part of the development of the Long Term Plan 2027-2037, Council undertook an initial round of community engagement from 5-24 August 2026 to understand community priorities and inform the draft Long Term Plan that will go to public consultation next year.

The primary engagement tool was an online budget simulator that provided participants with a snapshot of how Council currently allocates $100 of rates revenue. Participants were then invited to reallocate spending across key activity areas to reflect their own priorities. Alongside the online tool, Council held eight community meetings throughout the district to discuss the Long Term Plan, the budget tool and the opportunities and challenges facing Westland over the next ten years.

Over the three-week engagement period Council received 138 submissions through the online tool and attracted attendance of more than 120 people across the community meetings.

What's next?

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this early engagement process.

Council staff and elected members will now review the feedback received through the Budget Simulator, submissions, community sessions, and other engagement activities. This feedback will help us better understand what matters most to our communities and where you believe Council should focus its investment and services over the next 10 years.

The insights gathered during this phase will help inform the development of the draft Long Term Plan 2027-2037.

Once the draft Long Term Plan has been prepared, it will be released for formal public consultation next year. This will provide another opportunity for the community to review the proposed direction and tell us whether we have got the balance right.

Together, these conversations will help shape the blueprint for Westland's future.
