Ross is a small historic town that is 31 km south of Hokitika. Ross was the centre of one of New Zealand’s richest alluvial goldfields in the late 19th century, with extensive underground mining and sluicing claims.
Nowadays, Ross is a start and endpoint for the West Coast Wilderness Trail, and new businesses and tourism enterprises have emerged.
