Buller District Council, Grey District Council and Westland District Council are commencing a special consultative procedure to obtain community views on the draft Regional West Coast Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2024-2030.
The Waste Minimisation Act 2008 requires all territorial authorities to adopt a Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) and review it every six years.
The draft West Coast Regional WMMP outlines the vision, objectives, goals, targets, action plans, and sources of funding to address waste management and minimisation across the West Coast, which comprises the Buller, Grey and Westland Districts.
The WMMP must be consulted with the public under a Special Consultation Procedure under Section 83 of the Local Government Act 2002. Therefore, the three district councils are seeking the community's feedback on the draft West Coast Regional Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2024 – 2030 before the final plan can be adopted.
A Statement of Proposal summarising proposed actions, regional waste management and minimisation targets, challenges and opportunities, the proposed vision and other essential information including the submission form, the draft West Coast Regional Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2024 – 2030, and the Regional Waste Assessment 2024 are available for inspection and may be obtained from the District Councils’ offices and libraries.
Written submissions on the draft plan are invited during the consultation period from Monday, 18 November, to 5 pm on Friday, 20 December 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.
Submissions can be made online via Councils’ websites, delivered to Councils’ offices, or posted to Councils’ main offices. If you have any questions, please contact your district council.
