Grand day for the Whataroa Playground grand opening

Media Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A lovely sunshiny day ensured that the grand opening of the new playground and toilet block in Whataroa on 6 July was enjoyed by all. Replacing worn and out-of-date equipment, the playground is fun and colourful and will be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Children from Whataroa Primary School dressed up to celebrate along with their families, their teachers and community members.

“It is a great enhancement for the town,” says Southern Ward Councillor Ian Hartshorne. “The community is very excited to have a safe and modern playground for the children. I’m sure that it will get a lot of use and also attract anyone travelling with small children since it’s nice and bright and close to the road.”

Project Manager, Hamish Webster adds, “This was a really local project, we were able to use local contractors for most of the work, including Jake Moore Building who did the timber work edging, fencing, bollards and woodchip installation, Kevan Hansen did the staining work, and Dave Nolan and the Whataroa community group did a range of tasks to help with making a this project a success.  Clearing site ready for installation and tiding up after installations of playground equipment and dismantle of site fencing.”

New equipment installed in the playground includes:
