Due to the age and condition of the existing water treatment plant and periodic e-coli transgressions, Council engaged Marshall Projects Ltd to construct a new membrane filtration water treatment plant.
The current plant fails to comply with mandatory bacterial and protozoal measures outlined in the Council’s Long Term Plan 2021-2031. The new plant will have an increased water take limit and continuous monitoring installed. There is a potential for growth and expansion as required.
Due to ongoing manufacturing and supply chain issues caused by Covid-19 the timeframe for completion has been extended to October 2023. There are still manufacturing delays and parts unavailable for the contractors to install. As a precaution the boil water notice remains in place until the water treatment plant is operational.

In July 2023 the existing treatment plant building will be removed and the treatment process equipment relocated. Once this has been completed, the new building will be erected and equipment can be installed. This includes the main process skid and the standby generator. This is expected to be during August/September.
